Lost Ball Foul

A foul that occurs when neither team has possession of the ball, usually the case when a player has lost control of the ball or the ball is in the air following a missed shot. In NBA, a loose ball foul is considered neither an offensive nor defensive foul, and does not count as a personal or team foul. However, if the fouling player’s team is in the penalty, the opposing team will receive free throws. If not, the opposing team inbounds the ball following the foul.
