Inactive List

It is an official designation used by the NBA for players who become injured and temporarily unable to play. It is used because the rules allow for only a certain numbers of players on each team’s roster. Designating a player as “Injured/Reserve” frees up a new spot, enabling the team to add a new player during the injured player’s convalescence. In NBA, 12 players should be in the active list, and at least 1 player on its inactive list. Teams may have a maximum of 3 players on its inactive list, which includes any players sent to the NBA Development League.
